Overview

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that elevates and reshapes your breasts, giving them a more youthful and firm appearance. If you’re experiencing sagging, drooping, or stretched skin due to aging, pregnancy, or weight loss, a breast lift can help restore your natural contour. By removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue, Dr. Marosan can lift your breasts higher on your chest, improving their shape and position.

  • Repositions and reshapes stretched areolas
  • Reduces excess skin for a firmer appearance
  • Boosts self-confidence and body image

  • Minimizes the appearance of scarring with advanced techniques

Visualize Your Results

With Vectra 3D imaging, you can see a realistic preview of your breast lift results before surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Marosan will capture detailed, three-dimensional images of your breasts. These images allow you to explore different outcomes and choose the look that best suits your goals. Vectra 3D helps you make informed decisions by showing how your breasts could appear post-surgery, ensuring you feel confident and excited about your transformation.

Incision Types:

Benelli Lift

The Benelli lift involves an incision made around the perimeter of the areola. This technique is ideal for mild sagging and results in minimal scarring. The circular incision allows for subtle lifting and repositioning of the breast, making it a good option for patients seeking a less invasive approach with a more natural look.

Lollipop Lift

The lollipop lift, also known as the vertical lift, includes an incision around the areola and another vertical incision down to the breast crease. This method is effective for moderate sagging, and it provides a more significant lift while maintaining relatively minimal scarring. It creates a well-rounded, lifted breast shape.

Anchor Lift

The anchor lift, or inverted-T lift, is meant for more severe sagging. It involves three incisions: one around the areola, a vertical incision to the breast crease, and a horizontal incision along the crease. This technique allows for maximum lifting and reshaping, making it ideal for those with significant excess skin or drooping.

During Surgery

Your breast lift surgery with Dr. Marosan begins in our AAAASF-accredited surgery suite, where you’ll receive intravenous sedation. In some cases, and if you prefer, Dr. Marosan may use local tumescent anesthesia with minimal oral sedation. He’ll discuss these options during your consultation. The surgery typically lasts 2-3 hours, depending on the complexity and any additional procedures, like augmentation, you might choose to combine with your lift.

During the procedure, Dr. Marosan will make incisions based on the degree of lift needed. These may be around the areola (Benelli lift), extend vertically to the breast crease (lollipop lift), or further horizontally along the crease (anchor lift). After trimming excess skin, Dr. Marosan will tighten the underlying tissue to elevate and reshape your breasts. The remaining skin is re-draped, and sutures are used to close the incisions, providing a more youthful, lifted appearance. If desired, implants may be added to enhance volume and projection.

After Surgery

After your breast lift surgery, you may experience some swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. Dr. Marosan will encourage you to start moving within the first 24-48 hours to promote healing but avoid heavy lifting and any chest pressure.

Most daily activities can be resumed within two weeks, though strenuous exercise should wait 4-6 weeks. The initial results will be visible immediately, but as swelling subsides and scars fade over the next few months, your breasts will continue to settle into their new, lifted shape.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Do I Need a Lift or an Augmentation?

Whether you need a breast lift, augmentation, or both depends on your aesthetic goals and current breast shape. A breast lift corrects sagging and drooping, creating a fuller appearance by lifting the breast. If you desire more volume, implants may be recommended. Dr. Marosan will assess your needs during the consultation and advise you on the best approach. If you don’t want implants, autologous fat injections can add volume to the upper portion of the breasts.

Will My Nipples Need to Be Repositioned?

In many cases, a breast lift involves repositioning the nipple and areola to ensure they are proportionate to the newly shaped breast. When excess skin is removed, a portion of the stretched areola may also be trimmed to achieve a natural and balanced appearance. Contrary to some misconceptions, the nipple and areola complex is not detached from the breast tissue; it is moved together with the lifted breast tissue.

How Visible Will My Scars Be?

Scarring is an inevitable part of any surgical procedure, including a breast lift. However, Dr. Marosan uses precise incision and suturing techniques to minimize the appearance of scars. The extent and location of scars depend on the type of incision used, which will be determined by the degree of lift required. With proper post-surgery care, including a scar care program provided by Dr. Marosan, your scars will fade over time and become less noticeable.

When Can I Resume Normal Activities?

Most patients can resume light daily activities within a couple of weeks after surgery. However, it’s crucial to avoid heavy lifting, strenuous exercise, or any activity that puts pressure on your chest for at least 4-6 weeks. Dr. Marosan will provide specific guidelines tailored to your recovery, ensuring you heal properly while gradually returning to your normal routine.
